SPROUTS IN RIP IT UP

Local Talent Scouts ‘Sprout’ into the Big Scene

Local group ‘Sprouts’ have gone from DIY talent scouts to overnight phenomenon! With new talent emerging everyday, they are proving to be the biggest online platform for showcasing young performers around Adelaide.

Jessica, Ian and Yas, have been promoting young, local performers since they began Sprouts three years ago. Since then, Sprouts’ popularity has really taken off. In their three years together, they have helped to promote over a hundred young artists many of which would never have had the chance without them.

Sprouts have recently branched out and are using online social media tools to promote their performers not only locally, but around the world. Their new interactive website acts as an online platform for young, emerging artists to get noticed. ‘Performers can upload video or audio files onto our Youtube channel and people can view these files, comment and rate them,’ Ian says. ‘Followers can engage by communicating through Facebook, Twitter, our blog and our interactive website. The Sprouts Battle is another way local performers can get themselves out there.’

The ‘Sprouts Battle’, held on the 3rd of October, is a performance showcasing competing young artists from around Adelaide. Young performers who think they’ve got what it takes will compete for the ‘Sprouts Title’ at Jive, Hindley St. The event will be posted on the Sprouts Youtube channel www.youtube.com/sprouts and the public can vote for the winner online.

The Sprouts phenomenon all began in 2007 when the group began approaching local, unknown artists and getting them gigs in the Adelaide club/pub scene. ‘It actually started when we were walking through Rundle Mall and saw a young guy playing the violin,’ explains Yas. ‘He was extremely talented and it disturbed us to think that he may not ever really get noticed. We thought, wouldn’t it be great if we could discover and promote young musicians who might otherwise never get the chance to share their talent!’

They discovered many talented performers and proved to be a huge success. ‘We have always been really into the Adelaide music scene and know a lot of people from going to gigs and stuff. We approached a couple of artists that we had seen and got them gigs.’ Word of mouth saw that they received widespread support and they soon became very well-known around Adelaide themselves. ‘Now we have the online platform to find new talent and promote our artists to a much broader audience.’

Think you’ve got what it takes? Sprouts are always seeking new talent, whether you’re a singer, dancer or comedian. Register for the ‘Sprouts Battle’ online at www.sprouts.com.au or upload a video or track of your performance and let Sprouts do the rest!
